Tianjin is the largest open coastal city in northern China. Since 1860s, there were 9 countries including Britain and France with opening of trade in Tianjin, and Qing dynasty also set up industry in Tianjin at the same time. Tianjin has as indelible tradition and historical position in culture and art. It upholds and open and conservative dual personality, and thus produces many cultural compatible creations that combine Chinese and Western cultures.

Jizhou Artel is located in the northern suburbs of Tianjin, China. It is the only semi-mountain area in Tianjin, known as the backyard of Tianjin City. It is 115 kilometers northern than Tianjin and 88 kilometer eastern than Beijing. Jizhou has a natural beauty and a perfect distance from the modern city. Therefore, the concept is highlighting the eight major arts as the theme of this hostel: painting, sculpture, architecture, music, literature, dance, drama, and film.

Each theme is presented in two adjacent rooms, and the common space between these two rooms is produced to create a performance space for practice or opening to the public.
